Hyundai Motor's 'Level 3 Autonomous Driving' core technology is on the verge of achieving international standardization.

According to the Ministry of Trade on the 22nd, a total of 36 domestic experts from industry, academia, research institutes, and government participated in the 61st International Standardization Meeting of Intelligent Transport Systems (ISO/TC 204) to lead the international standardization of autonomous driving.
During the recent meeting held in San Antonio, USA, active discussions took place on 26 autonomous driving international standard projects led by South Korea.
The 'Risk Minimization Measures for Autonomous Driving' standard proposed by Hyundai Motor and the Korea Automotive Research Institute in December 2020 passed the member countries' vote at this meeting after two and a half years of discussion. Consequently, it entered the final stage of International Standard Drafting process. The 'Risk Minimization Measures for Autonomous Driving' is a crucial standard that must be applied to Level 3 and higher autonomous driving systems, providing safety design methods such as automatically moving the vehicle to the side of the road when abnormalities occur during autonomous driving.
It is predicted to have an absolute impact on the design, development, and evaluation of autonomous driving systems and components. It is also expected to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of domestic companies in the emerging Level 3 autonomous driving market.
Jong-wook Jin, the Director of the National Agency for Technology Standards, stated, "We will actively support the international standardization of domestic autonomous driving technology and expand cooperation with the United States to promote the global market entry of domestic companies."
